Embracing Hitler
When I was a kid in the early 60's my dad, a WWII Naval Veteran, told me of his cousin who lived in the family homeland of Lyon, France. At one time my family was the French Royal Jewelers, and he was enormously proud of his heritage and eagerly joined the French resistance. He would protect his homeland and fight the Nazis on the streets of his hometown. As luck, or lack of it, would have it, he was caught by the Nazis and imprisoned. Now at that time Lyon was under the brutal control of a being named Klaus Barbie, aka "The Butcher of Lyon."
My dad told how he'd heard through family members that his cousin had been taken from the barracks of whatever camp they were in and taken by truck to the train station or railroad yard where they were to be shipped by boxcar to "The showers." for elimination. As the story goes, he made this terrifying trip not once, but twice on two consecutive days, and there was no room on the train. They just couldn't possibly jam any more "future corpses" on the train. Each time he was returned for another day of "life," actually just breathing at that point. He would be dead the next day. On the third day, he was again rounded up, this time, first so he would be at the head of the transport. Then "The Yanks" came in and liberated the village and the camp. Dad's cousin lived to see his country free again.
Now eighty years later, turn on the nightly "news" and you'll see images of college students (whose minds are still forming according to experts) as well as Jewish adults who should know better but don't, protesting in favor of a terrorist group whose stated goal is the destruction of Israel and the extermination of Jews.
Sound familiar?
HITLER WOULD BE PROUD OF THEM.
